What awaits you

Arctic life under one roof

Polaria brings the Arctic sea into the city centre:

Bearded seals

The bearded seals are the stars of Polaria. You can watch them in their pools above and below the water.

Seal training

The keepers train and feed the seals three times a day, a good moment to plan your visit around.

Arctic aquarium

The aquarium shows fish and other life from the cold waters of the Arctic.

Interactive exhibitions

Exhibitions about the Arctic and its nature invite you to explore at your own pace.

Good to know

Before your visit to Polaria

Opening hours and seal training

Polaria is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. The seals are trained and fed at 10:30, 12:30 and 15:30, and these are the busiest and liveliest moments of the day. If you want to see the training, arrive a little earlier and find a place by the pool. A guided tour starts at 13:30; it needs a separate ticket.

What you see

Polaria is an Arctic experience centre rather than a classic museum. The bearded seals are the main attraction, and you can watch them from above and through the glass below the water. The Arctic aquarium shows life from the cold seas of the north, and the exhibitions explain the Arctic and its nature.

Getting there

Polaria is at Hjalmar Johansens gate 12, within walking distance of the city centre. Buses 33, 34, 40 and 42 stop nearby. The Polar Museum, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, is also in the centre and fits well into the same day.

A good plan for a dark afternoon

A visit to Polaria works at any time of year and in any weather. In winter, when the daylight is short, it fills an afternoon before an evening tour. After the seals, a northern lights tour or a ride up the Fjellheisen cable car for the view over Tromsø rounds off the day.
